Who frontman Roger Daltrey has added a new date to his recently announced U.S. summer tour that will feature a performance of his band’s 1969 rock opera, Tommy, with orchestral accompaniment — a June 17 concert at Forest Hills Stadium in New York City. Daltrey will be joined by The New York Pops at the show, as well as his backing band, which features members of The Who’s touring group.
Tickets for the concert will go on sale to the general public on Friday, February 9, at 10 a.m. ET. Pre-sale tickets also will be made available. For more information about ticket options, visit ForestHillsStadium.com.
“I’m really looking forward to singing Tommy, not only with my great backing group, but also one of the finest orchestras in the country,” Daltrey says about the New York City event. “Pete Townshend‘s rock music is particularly suited to being embellished by the sounds that an orchestra can add to the band.”
Roger also points out that the orchestral arrangements for his Tommy performances have been written by acclaimed composer and arranger David Campbell, who’s Beck‘s father.
Daltrey last performed at Forest Hills Stadium when The Who played at the venue in May 2015. The band also played there in July 1971.
As previously reported, the “Roger Daltrey Performs The Who’s Tommy” tour gets underway on June 8 in Bethel, New York, and is mapped out through a July 8 show in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Daltrey will be accompanied by a different orchestra at each stop on the trek. Roger also will play four U.S. shows in March with just his backing band.
